KoteE-gura, Main building

I think one of the themes contained in the KoteE-gura and the main building
is a serious pray entrusted to the power of Dragons.

Brue Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Turtle are the guardians of east, west,
south, and north, respectively.
Chinese Zodiac reptresenting twelve months for grain growth. And a lot of figures of dragons represent talisman and good luck charm.

Garden

I think one of the themes of the garden is "prayer," entrusted to the power of inscribed stones and megaliths.

The garden is surrounded by many lava mounds that were brought from Onioshidashi on Mt. Asama.
It was once much harder, and the entire perimeter was lava. There are also many inscribed stones, including raw red marbles from Sado and jadeite from Itoigawa.
The "mountain lantern" is made by piling up natural stones. Behind it is a large pond where beautiful koi carp once swam. In the center is a lava fountain and a dragon's head. And many trees and lanterns.

Annex, Guest house

One of the themes of the detached house is "prayer" entrusted to the power of precious and giant trees.

Enter through the entrance hall with its magnificent roof, change into slippers, and enter the "corridor" with its large cypress boards.
Enter through the main entrance of the detached house, change into slippers, and enter the "corridor" with its large cypress boards.
Along the long corridor runs a 10-ken long single cedar ceiling, covered with paulownia wood chips.
Proceeding to the two-room room on the left, there are fine wood alcove pillars, ornaments, and custom-made retro-style lighting fixtures.
All the pillars in the corridor are straight-grained on all four sides. There are also transoms and paintings on the wooden doors, and in the two-room room on the right, there are folding screens and
calligraphy. The calligraphy is a magnificent poem of the Eight Winds by Zen Master Arai Seki, who also lived at Untoan.

Ishou-gura

The Costume Storehouse
The Costume Storehouse was the first storehouse to feature trowel
painting, and was built prior to the luxurious trowel painting storehouse.
The nearly monotone trowel-art of the four gods ( Shijin ) are
installed and was prayed the peace and wellness of society.
Next, it was installed several anti-moisture devises. Namely raised
floors, ventilation holes, and high-quality galvanized iron plates to
protect kimonos, lacquerware, etc.
The grape arabesque pattern was applied to the wide slope surface
under the eaves , that has fallen off due to the large earthquake
occurred in 2004, must have been truly gorgeous.
